Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide is a clear, nearly odorless gas that is administered through a nasal mask. As you breathe it in, you should start to feel relaxed. You might also feel a bit giddy (nitrous oxide is sometimes referred to as “laughing gas”). We can adjust your level of sedation throughout your procedure, and when your treatment is over, you should feel normal within minutes after we remove the nasal mask. There are no lasting side-effects, so you can drive yourself home and return to normal activities after your appointment.
Oral Conscious Sedation

With oral conscious sedation, all you have to do is swallow a small prescription pill shortly before your treatment is scheduled to begin. Within 30 minutes or so, you should start to feel relaxed and also somewhat drowsy. You can expect to stay calm throughout your procedure, and you might not even remember it afterward. Because the effects of oral conscious sedation can last for several hours, you should have a trusted adult available to drive you home from your appointment. You can resume normal activities the following day.
